HISTORY OF THE CELEBRATION OF BLACK MEN PROGRAM
The Celebration of Black Men Program was the brain child of one of our members, who attended a similar affair in another state. We held the first bruch in October of 2001 and have continued to hold the event each year with the exception of 2008 and 2012.
Throughout history, Black men have continually been overlooked for their accomplishments and not given the appreciation they deserved for the brilliant, positive, influential, and powerful things that they have done. The goal of Celebration of Black Men is to applaud these Unsung Heros who have made a significant impact and unique contribution to our Black Community throughout Washtenaw County.
In 2002, we added the Young Men of Promise recognition category, to celebrate African American high school senior males who are recognized as leaders in their school and who have shown the potential for doing great things in their future.
