Greetings from the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Delta Psi Omega Chapter and welcome to our website where you can learn more about our chapter, programs and events.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is the first Greek-letter sorority established and incorporated by African American college women. The sorority was founded on January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Delta Psi Omega Chapter was chartered on Saturday, December 4, 1948, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since that time, our talented, dedicated, visionary and diverse membership has carried on the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. tradition of providing “Supreme Service to All Mankind”.
Delta Psi Omega Chapter is dedicated to service, scholarship and sisterhood. In 2022, we supported scholarships for local graduating seniors; donated thousands of dollars to support historically black colleges and universities; co-hosted candidate forums to provide community members an opportunity to meet and engage political and judicial candidates; celebrated Juneteenth 2022 with the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor communities; hosted movie and book club events celebrating black history and culture; implemented programs furthering our international service targets including HBCU for Life, #CAPsm, women’s healthcare and wellness, building our community’s economic legacy, the arts, and global impact. We also supported local youth through our Delta Psi Omega Youth Group, participation in the Parkridge Community Center and Parkridge Park Trunk-or-Treat event and reading to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti elementary students for Martin L. King, Jr. International Day of Service. In October 2022 we held our signature Celebration of Black Men event, in which we recognized and honored the accomplishments of black men who have positively impacted Washtenaw County and young black men in high school who have achieved in scholarship and service.
In 2023 and 2024, Delta Psi Omega will continue its work, with programs that address childhood hunger in our local community; raise awareness of mental health challenges and resources; uplift the community; promote economic wealth, financial wellness and entrepreneurship; support our environment through tree planting, gardens, and waste-reduction initiatives; continue our tradition of promoting the vote through voter education, registration and mobilization; and engage young people, to include the Youth Leadership Initiative, a youth-led, interactive leadership development program for youth 11 to 13 years old.
We welcome you to browse our site and learn more about our programs, and we invite you to attend our public events.
Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® are invited to join us on the second Friday of each month (except July and August) at our monthly meeting. For details of time and place, please contact us at contact@akadeltapsiomega.org.
